The Robert "Bob" Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center located at 6156 Pulaski Pike is close to completion. The center will provide something for everyone!

On the first floor is the beautiful 2800 sq. ft. ballroom. This spacious room provides the perfect setting for festive dinners and receptions. This space will be available on a rental basis, for class and family reunions, wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversary receptions and other events.

Meetings will be held in the large state-of-the-art conference room. This room will also be available for rent.

The reception area will be equipped with a data scan entry system. All members will receive a membership card that will be swiped every time they enter and exit the building. Adjacent to the reception area there is a break room area. Members can relax with a cup of coffee or juice in this sunny relaxing area or even sit outside on the canopy covered patio which is adjacent to the break room.

The Pool area features an Olympic-sized swimming pool with handicap access and a hot tub.
Additional amenities on the first floor include an arts & crafts room which has been equipped with beautiful cabinetry, a computer Lab, the Alma Foggo-York Memorial Clinic and multiple locker rooms.

The Arts and Crafts Room will be available for sewing, ceramics and crafting. Classes will be available in all areas. Sewing machines have been purchased for the Arts & Crafts Room and our seniors at the North Huntsville Senior Center on Blue Spring Road are already busy sewing tablecloths for the tables for the new ballroom.

On the second floor is our fitness center, which offers a rubberized indoor walking track and over twenty pieces of exercise equipment including: treadmills, recumbent bikes, elliptical trainers, weight benches and a set of pneumatic strength training machines which includes a leg press, leg curl, arm curl, triceps, lateral pull-down, leg extension and a military press. This exercise area is also equipped with several flat screen TV's. The fitness center also has a separate glass-enclosed exercise room for aerobics, Zumba, Tai Chi and video classes.

One aspect that we are most excited about is our Volunteer Program. The Harrison Center will pride itself on supplying a place for our members to provide service to their community. This volunteer opportunity is a two-way street. The volunteers will have a sense of identity while volunteering gives them pride in something and give them credit of service and expertise. It is the classic "win win" situation. Volunteers will operate the front desk, give tours of the building, teach classes, and make the Harrison Center a home away from home. However, their most important role is to be the unofficial ambassador for our program. These "ambassadors" do more than any advertising could ever do in order to gain new members and keep our halls and classes full.

Excitement is definitely in the air for the anticipated Grand Opening of our new Senior Center. The center will be opening in January 2013 and an exact date will be announced in the very near future.

If you have any questions about the center and want to add your name to the volunteer list, please call Cindy Cotton at 256-532-1505.
