Voter Registration Roll Call

 

Redeeming Love Outreach Ministries registered 50 first-time voters compiled by SON staff (DECATUR, AL) - - Redeeming Love Outreach Ministries held its inaugural voter registration drive on Sunday, September 14, 2008. The drive was part of an area-wide voter registration drive for the Morgan County area. Eligible registrants were at least 18 years of age and a resident of the state of Alabama. “We feel that it is imperative that we not only teach biblical principles, but application of those principles in our day-to-day life,” said Knegleshia Smothers-Cobb, ministry spokesperson. Though the majority of the congregation was registered voters, RLOM registered over 50 first time voters. “We are proud about educating our parishioners and community on the importance of exercising their right to vote. We realize that every vote counts,” said Smothers-Cobb. According to a recent article from the National Newspaper Publishers Association, eight million African-Americans are still not registered to vote.

The Rosetta James Foundation Youth Council registered 39
voters at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on last Sunday. The council will be at First Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

Oakwood University registered 105 new voters

Student Driven Voter's Drive at Drake State Technical College By Jennifer O'Linger
Students from Drake State's Student Government Association sponsored a Student driven Voter's Drive where they have registered over 50 people to vote. Mr. Charles Lyle, Sr. and Ms. Sopia Lacy spent last week encouraging all students from Drake State Technical College and the community to register to vote in this year's election. The SGA's voters registration drive will continue until October's cutoff date.

Ala. A&M University Voter Drive By Jamiel Brown, president, AAMU Democrats
The members of the AAMU democrats are doing great things around the campus of Alabama A&M according to Jamiel Brown President of the AAMU Democrats, "We are currently registering voters for the elections that are taking place this fall. As of Monday September 15 we have registered 1200 freshman voters and counting at Alabama A&M our goal is to register between 1700 to 1800 new voters for the November elections, to show the state of Alabama that the students of Alabama A&M have a voice that needs to and will be heard across the city of Huntsville and the entire state of Alabama".
