The Progressive Union M. B. Church celebrated its annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Day on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at the 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. services. Speaker for both services was Ms. Alethea Bonello, Re-gional Youth Field Director for the NAACP Region V. Ms. Bonello mentors and directs youth and college students in the NAACP Region V which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee, Texas, Wis-consin, and West Virginia. Ms. Bonello delivered a message from II Samuel 23:8-12, 20-21, her message title was "We Return Fighting". In attendance were Ms. Alice Sams, president of the Huntsville-Madison County branch of the NAACP; Mr. Leonard Phillips, president of the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) Bulldog chapter of the NAACP, the state's largest college chapter; Rev. Robert Shanklin, past president of the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP and an associate minister at Progressive Union; his wife, Mrs. Cynthia Shanklin, Women In the NAACP (WIN) Coordinator for the Huntsville-Madison County branch of the NAACP; Mrs. Ada Houston, Mrs. Eva Smith, and Mr. Roosevelt Miller longtime volunteers and officers at the Huntsville-Madison County NAACP and other NAACP officers and members. Rev. Wayne Snodgrass is the pastor of Progressive Union.
