Madison Co. ADC Chairman Eddie Sherrod receives the Arthur D. Shores Superior Leadership Award

(FAR LEFT) Arthur D. Shore Superior Leadership Award recipient, Eddie Cedric Sherrod, Madison Co. ADC chairman was presented this honor by Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC).

Dr. The Arthur D. Shore Superior Leadership Award was presented to Eddie Cedric Sherrod, Sr. on May 11, 2013 by Dr. Joe L. Reed, chairman, Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC). Eddie Sherrod, Madison Co. ADC chairman, received this award for his consistent record, community outreach, dedication, and overall effectiveness for more than a decade of service to the people of Alabama and ADC.

Coach Eddie Cedric Sherrod, Sr. presently serves as Chairman of the Madison County Unit of the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC). A position he has held for 14 consecutive years. During his tenure as Chairman, he initiated the Annual Membership Breakfast recognizing and honoring members that have made significant contribution to the organization. The Annual Membership Breakfast has become a premiere event in Madison County permitting voters to interact with elected officials and serves as a platform for candidates.

Madison County has maintained the largest county membership for many years, and has been recognized by the State organization for successful programming. In 2000 Chairman Sherrod introduced the Annual ADC Golf Tournament. Dozens of golfers compete and all proceeds are used to enhance local campaign and elections activities including candidate development, voter education and the Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV).

The Madison County Unit has registered hundreds of voters, and Chairman Sherrod has personally registered more than 1000 voters. A member of the State Democratic Executive Committee, he served on the Rules Committee for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

He and his wife of 33 years, Judge Martha Lynn Sherrod (Retired), attend St. John AME. Church, Huntsville, Alabama where he serves as a Steward. He is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the NAACP He also holds membership in Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, the National Alumni Associations of UAPB, The Alabama New South Coalition, the Madison County Democratic Men's Club, the National Education Association (NEA), and the Alabama Education Association (AEA). He currently serves on the Board of the Huntsville / Madison County Mental Health Center and serves as chairman of the Personnel Committee and the Youth Golf Association. He is a Past President of the North Huntsville Kiwanis Club and the Community Action Partnership for Huntsville, Madison and Limestone Counties. He has been formally recognized by the local legislative delegation for Outstanding Leadership to the Alabama Democratic Conference, and has received numerous awards including The Dreamer Award from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Honors of the Council Award presented by the Madison County Worshipful Masters Council, and received the Voting Rights Act Renewal Award presented by the Voter Rights Project, Inc.
